New World China Land Limited announced to hold the “Walk a New World for Children” cross-border charity walking fund-raising activity together with the UNICEF in Shenzhen New World Yishan Garden. The activity raised a total of one million HK dollars. This was the first large-sized cross-border charity fund-raising activity after the Enterprise Alliance was signed by and between New World Group and the UNICEF on August 22. 

The activity was attended by such guests as Miss Kelly Chen and Mr. Daniel Chan, ambassadors of the UNICEF HK Office. They, together with about 1,000 participants, walked from the New World Headquarters at Tsim Sha Tsui of HK to SHA TAU KOK of Shenzhen, and then reached Shenzhen New World Yishan Garden in Yantian District by way of SHA TAU KOK pass. Later on, the sponsors held the starting ceremony in Yishan Garden and walked to Wutong Mountain in the rear, which was taken as the final destination. 

The New World Group’s 2-year “Creating New World for Children” charity cooperative plan would conduct close cooperation with the UNICEF HK Office. Many fund-raising and publicity activities would be held both in HK and Mainland China for collecting 10 million HK dollars to support the “Girls Education Project” in poverty-stricken mountainous regions, and to improve the schooling opportunities for girl students in those poor regions. 

New World Group spares no effort in the charity cause for helping the disadvantaged in the community step onto new track of life. This is consistent with the UNICEF’s intention to improve and safeguard survival, development and benefit of the unfortunate children and to develop a strong belief of stressing the importance of education to the future of children. 

Across China, over millions of girls living in poverty-stricken villages have presently been deprived of schooling because they have to do much farm work and housework and look after their younger brothers and sisters. Failing to receive education, their life could never be improved, and the poverty will always stay with them.
