(6 July, 2015——Hong Kong) New World China Land Limited (NWCL; Hong Kong Stock Code: 917) joined hands with Shan Shui Conservation Centre to launch the Low Carbon Green Home project in Gansu Province on 3 July 2015, aiming to conserve energy in the Baishuijiang natual reserve area.
In the beginning of 2015, NWCL donated RMB500,000 to Shan Shui Conservation Centre to build energy-saving stoves for 108 peasants in three Baishuijiang natural reserve areas in Gansu, expecting to save 334.8 tons of firewood and 1,674 mu of forests in a year. The project conserved the rural local communities in Baishuijiang natural reserve areas and Sichuan where the habitat of giant pandas is located.
Apart from donation, NWCL had recruited 30 volunteers from New World Volunteer Team and Love.New World Volunteers Club and 10 students from China Young Leaders Foundation to participate in the voluntary service for four days, including stove building and conservation support. Volunteers experienced biodiversity of natural environment, and promoted the concept of sustainable development to local farmers.
Dedicated to building sustainable communities, NWCL has established the Sustainable Committee early in 2012 and launch the sustainable policy. In 2014, NWCL published the first standalone Sustainability Report so as to demonstrate its achievement and the roadmap of sustainable development. In 2013 and 2014, it jointly held farmhouse rebuild programmes in poverty-stricken areas with an international charitable organisation, Habitat for Humanity China. NWCL hopes to enhance environmental awareness of its staff through encouraging them to participate in the volunteer service in Gansu.
Shan Shui Conservation Centre was founded in 2007, committed to the protection of natural environment and the conservation of biodiversity. Their current projects involve 25 natural reserves and over 120 villages in Sichuan, Qinghai, Yunnan and Tibet.
