(30 December 2016, Hong Kong) New World China Land Limited ("NWCL" or "the Company") received four accolades in Hong Kong and Mainland China in the fourth quarter of 2016 by virtue of its outstanding performance in green building and corporate social responsibility. This fully demonstrates that NWCL's achievements in sustainable development have won industry-wide recognition.

In Hong Kong, NWCL is awarded "China Property Awards 2016 - Special Recognition in CSR" by Property Guru Group. The Canton First Estate – a project located in Foshan - is also selected as a finalist in the "New Buildings Category - Completed Projects - Commercial Building" and is awarded "Special Citation in Eco-Service Infrastructure Network" in the "Green Building Award 2016" jointly organised by Hong Kong Green Building Council and Professional Green Building Council. In Mainland China, the Company is also the "2016 Mainland China's Top 30 Most Competitive Enterprise in Green Building", an award jointly presented by China Real Estate Business and China International Real Estate & Architectural Technology Fair (CIHAF).

Mr Alfred So Chung-Keung, Chief Executive Officer of NWCL said: "NWCL has always placed importance on sustainable development of the communities in which it operates. Apart from building quality residential neighbourhoods, large-scale mixed-use commercial landmarks, shopping centres, offices and hotels in precious lots, we have also proactively introduced green building designs in our projects, enhancing the overall quality of the communities. We believe, with NWCL's vision and mission to building a sustainable community, the brand position of the Company will be further enhanced, enabling us to take a leading role in Mainland China's urban development and to promote a quality environmentally healthy lifestyle amongst residents."

In fact, the Company introduced “NWCL Green Building Design Guidelines” in as early as 2014, providing guidance and recommendations on green design features, material selection and best construction practices. NWCL also promotes water conservation, waste reduction and upgrades the quality of the indoor environment, all these aim to minimise the impact of property developments to the environment. At present, the Company has 12 property projects in Mainland China attaining the U.S. LEED Gold certification or pre-certification, the GFA of such projects totalled 926,000 square metres. Projects that have attained two star and three star of China “Evaluation Standard for Green Building” cover GFA of over 1 million square meters.

Another major initiative of NWCL is the exploration and building of the sponge city community. Through upgrading the city's drainage system in order to make good use of rainwater, it has given a solution to water shortage and the city's flood menace. In as early as 2011, NWCL has successfully built its Canton First Estate into a sponge city community. The whole project has a total gross area of 300 hectares. Apart from 47 hectares which is preserved for natural forestry, other enhancements include repairing damaged mountains and improving the diversity of plants by planting native species, improving the infiltration of rainwater and enhancing the value of ecology and landscape. In addition, the project links up 35 natural lakes, forming a capacity of 1.1 million-cubic metre self-circulated and recycling water system which greatly improves water storage and reduces the risk of flooding. Collected rainwater will be treated by four water purification systems including artificial floating island, natural and artificial wetland and ecological filtration system, to fully meet the irrigation needs of the golf course within the community. Hence, the project has become Mainland China’s one of the largest scale private developments with sponge city concept. The Company will implement the sponge city concept in another project, Ningbo New World.

Furthermore, NWCL is repaying the community through charitable donations and sponsorships, organising art and cultural activities in the community, and co-operating with international charitable organisations to jointly launch the farmhouse rebuild charity project. In addition, it has established the New World Volunteer Team - Mainland China’s first volunteer organisation set up by developer. As at 30 November 2016, the team has over 840 volunteers in various cities, organising a total of 129 activities in 2016 and has accumulated 4,159 service hours.
